Carol Frave Mixed Media Artist
A call to all interested artists to attend as an Artist in Residence at Porphyry Island Lighthouse took place in late May and the lighthouse group is pleased to announce the following artists.
“Since July 2016 I integrate electronic circuits into my glass works. These circuits serve to create an interaction with the public. For example, when someone touches the sculpture, lights turn on. Currently it works with batteries.
During the time spent at the lighthouse I would like to work to integrate solar-powered light into my artworks. I wish my sculptures to become self sufficient: They would light up in the evening and recharge during the day. I would like to take inspiration from the shape of the lighthouse to create forms that would go towards the sun.”
The artist in residence program will be an opportunity for visitors to; meet the artist, share in their artist experience and expressions, and they may even sell you a painting. At the end of the artist in residence term, the artist will be asked to donate a piece of art for the annual lighthouse fundraising dinner.
