Trowbridge Island Lighthouse

Trowbridge Light Station
Trowbridge Light Station

This authentic north shore lighthouses and it’s Fresnel Lens is located at feet of the Sleeping Giant surrounded by Lake Superior. The light tower is a shorter version of Peggy’s Cover Lighthouse in Newfoundland. The island takes its name from Charles A. Trowbridge a New York shareholder of the now flooded Silver Islet Mine who was married to another prominent surname of the area Ms. Alexander Sibley.

The Island is leased from Department of Fisheries by Canadian Lighthouses of Lake Superior who manages the site. An annual clean-up is organized and host keepers are working this season to start to restore the site. Some areas of the site are closed to visitors. The Keeper’s Dwelling is closed to visitors but exterior has received a few touch ups.

In 2024 the lighthouse celebrates it’s 100th year in service as an aid to navigation and a developing tourism destination.

Situated 25 km east of the City of Thunder Bay, the best way to see the light is from Silver Islet.
